The food-web structure of the Arctic deep Canada Basin was investigated in summer 2002 using carbon and nitrogen stable isotope tracers. Overall food-web length of the range of organisms sampled occupied four trophic levels, based on 3.8 trophic level enrichment (15N range: 5.3–17.7). It was, thus, 0.5–1 trophic levels longer than food webs in both Arctic shelf and temperate deep-sea systems. The food sources, pelagic particulate organic matter (POM) (13C=–25.8, 15N=5.3) and ice POM (13C=–26.9, 15N=4.1), were not significantly different. Organisms of all habitats, ice-associated, pelagic and benthic, covered a large range of 15N values. In general, ice-associated crustaceans (15N range 4.6–12.4, mean 6.9) and pelagic species (15N range 5.9–16.5, mean 11.5) were depleted relative to benthic invertebrates (15N range 4.6–17.7, mean 13.2). The predominantly herbivorous and predatory sympagic and pelagic species constitute a shorter food chain that is based on fresh material produced in the water column. Many benthic invertebrates were deposit feeders, relying on largely refractory material. However, sufficient fresh phytodetritus appeared to arrive at the seafloor to support some benthic suspension and surface deposit feeders on a low trophic level (e.g., crinoids, cumaceans). The enriched signatures of benthic deposit feeders and predators may be a consequence of low primary production in the high Arctic and the subsequent high degree of reworking of organic material. 相似文献

We report on the first comprehensive collection of invertebrates made on sub-Antarctic Bishop Island, which lies 33 km south
of Macquarie Island. A total of 15 species were collected, of which 14 also occur amongst the 168 species recorded from Macquarie
Island. We hypothesise that the greater species richness of Macquarie Island relative to Bishop Island is largely caused by
the greater habitat diversity on Macquarie Island but that other factors, including accidentally introduced species, may also
be important.

The β‐null deviation measure, developed as a null model for β‐diversity, is increasingly used in empirical studies to detect the underlying structuring mechanisms in communities (e.g. niche versus neutral and stochastic versus deterministic). Despite growing use, the ecological interpretation of the presence/absence and abundance‐based versions of the β‐null diversity measure have not been tested against communities with known assembly mechanisms, and thus have not been validated as an appropriate tool for inferring assembly mechanisms. Using a mechanistic model with known assembly mechanisms, we simulated replicate metacommunities and examined β‐null deviation values 1) across a gradient of niche (species‐sorting) to neutrally structured metacommunities, 2) through time, and 3) we compared the effect of changes in assembly mechanism on the performance of the β‐null deviation measures. The impact of stochasticity on assembly outcomes was also considered. β‐null deviation measures proved to be interpretable as a measure of niche or neutral assembly. However, the presence/absence version of the β‐null deviation measure could not differentiate between niche and neutral metacommunities if demographic stochasticity were present. The abundance‐based β‐null deviation measure was successful in distinguishing between niche and neutral metacommunities and was robust to the presence of stochasticity, changes through time, and changing assembly mechanisms. However, we suggest that it is not robust to changing abundance evenness distributions or sampling of communities, and so its interpretation still requires some care. 为了分析比格犬黑素皮质素受体-4基因多态性与犬体重的关系, 根据犬MC4R基因DNA外显子序列, 设计MC4R基因特异PCR引物1对, 犬DNA经PCR扩增, 克隆和测序, 寻找和确定犬MC4R基因的多态性位点, 分析多态性与犬体重的关系。结果在比格犬MC4R基因中发现2处单碱基缺失突变, 1个单碱基颠换变异, 存在Psh AⅠ酶切位点, 并基于PshAⅠ酶切位点建立了PCR-RFLP技术。统计分析显示犬MC4R基因型与体重显著相关, 可以考虑将MC4R基因作为犬体重的候选基因。 相似文献

In order to identify new potential antiviral agents, recent studies have advocated thorough testing of herbal medicines or natural substances that are traditionally used to prevent viral infections. Antiviral activities and the mechanism of action of the total aqueous extract preparation of KIOM-C, a novel herbal medicine, against diverse types of viruses were investigated. In vitro antiviral activity against A/Puerto Rico/8/34 (H1N1) (PR8), vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV), and Newcastle disease virus (NDV) through the induction of type-I interferon related protein phosphorylation and up-regulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines in murine macrophage cells (RAW264.7) were determined. In vivo, KIOM-C-treated BALB/c mice showed higher survivability and lower lung viral titers when challenged with A/Aquatic bird/Korea/W81/2005 (H5N2), A/PR/8/34(H1N1), A/Aquatic bird/Korea/W44/2005(H7N3) or A/Chicken/Korea/116 /2004(H9N2) influenza subtypes in contrast with the non-treated group. The present study revealed that total aqueous extract preparation of KIOM-C stimulates an antiviral state in murine macrophage cells and in mice leading to inhibition of viral infection and protection against lethal challenges. 相似文献
